AHIMA names Spellman to lead tech committee
AHIMA announced Tuesday that the American National Standards Institute had designated the association as secretariat of the International Organization for Standardization's health informatics technical committee. Spellman, in turn, will serve as secretary of that committee. The committee, known as ISO/TC 215, develops and harmonizes standards specifications and reports related to electronic health records, personal health records and health information exchange, according to an AHIMA news release (PDF).
Spellman most recently worked with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and the not-for-profit Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise initiative to lead HIMSS Interoperability Showcases and IHE Connectathons, respectively, across the globe, according to the release.
Spellman, whose age was unavailable at deadline, also will serve as administrator of a technical advisory group that represents the U.S. in the ISO/TC 215. Chicago-based AHIMA represents more than 61,000 health information management professionals, according to the release.
