Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago has named a new dean.
Northwestern names new med-school dean
Dr. Eric Neilson will serve as Feinberg's dean and vice president for medical affairs starting in September. He also will be chairman of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, according to a Feinberg news release.
Since 1998, Neilson has chaired the department of medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He continues to teach and keeps an active research lab, according to the release. He also helped establish the Vanderbilt Prize, honoring women in science. During his tenure, the number of female faculty members rose to 198 from 71. Before assuming his role at Vanderbilt, he spent 23 years at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Dr. Jeffrey Glassroth has been serving as interim dean since the start of the year. Former Feinberg dean J. Larry Jameson left in July to become dean at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
