Two western Michigan-based members of the Trinity Health system—St. Mary's Health Care in Grand Rapids and Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon—announced that they are forming a regional system that will operate under the name Mercy Health.
Trinity Health members plan regional system
Roger Spoelman, Mercy Health Partners president and CEO, will serve as “regional executive,” while Philip McCorkle Jr. remains president and CEO of St. Mary's Health Care, and each organization will maintain its own identity, management structure, logo and name, according to St. Mary's spokeswoman Micki Benz.
St. Mary's is anchored by its 344-bed hospital in Grand Rapids, while Mercy's main facility has a 181-bed Hackley Campus and a 230-bed Mercy Campus, both in Muskegon.
“We're only 35 miles apart,” Benz said. “We're developing a joint strategic plan to facilitate more access for patients and physicians and to develop a system to work together better and more seamlessly.”
Because the Novi, Mich.-based Trinity Catholic health system is so large, Benz said, it is focusing on forming regional systems to facilitate collaboration.
She cited the St. Joseph Mercy Health System in the Ann Arbor, Mich., region as an example of a similar arrangement, and said other regional systems have been established in Idaho, Iowa and the Columbus, Ohio, metro area.
