Kudos to the CMS on its new format for reporting provider uptake/payments under the Medicare and Medicaid electronic health-record incentive payment programs.
Thanks, CMS—just one more favor, please
Each document presents its data clearly in tables that are easy to read and understand.
It's a huge improvement over the spreadsheets the CMS used to report on EHR program participation in the first couple of months after getting started.
I encourage the CMS to go one step further, though, and also make the raw data available to the public for downloading and analysis.
An example to follow is that set by the Office for Civil Rights at HHS. Some time ago, the OCR greatly improved its web-based public presentation of data for breaches of 500 or more records. In addition to the easy-to-read web-based format, the OCR also makes the raw data available in a comma-delimited CSV format for downloading and analysis in a database or spread sheet program.
How about it, CMS?
