Cogent HMG, a national hospitalist outsourcing company formed this year through the merger of Cogent Healthcare and Hospitalists Management Group, has purchased critical-care services provider the Intensivist Group of Lake Zurich, Ill., for an undisclosed sum.
Cogent HMG buys the Intensivist Group
Gene Fleming, executive chairman of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Cogent HMG, previously stated that the new company would be well-positioned for nonorganic growth. Cogent HMG has about 1,000 physicians.
The Intensivist Group provides intensive-care-unit services through eight full-service intensivist programs, according to a Cogent HMG news release.
A spokeswoman for Cogent HMG said the Intensivist Group will keep its name for the time being and that the acquisition will leave the Intensivist Group's current leadership in place.
