McKesson completes Portico buy
San Francisco-based McKesson, which provides a variety of health IT, pharmacy-automation and claims-management services for providers, pharmacies, payers and suppliers, stated in a news release that the acquisition will help it support support payers' use of value-based reimbursement models and provider networks. McKesson also has offices in Malvern, Penn.
"In this age of health reform, it is imperative that payers and providers deepen their financial and clinical alignment to ensure optimal outcomes at the right cost," McKesson Health Solutions President Dr. Emad Rizk said in the release. "We are excited to integrate Portico's technology with our existing portfolio of leading payment, decision and care-management tools to help organizations achieve accountable, collaborative care while reducing administrative costs."
In announcing the deal in June, Safeguard Scientifics, a holding company that provided funding to Portico Systems, stated that McKesson had agreed to acquire Portico for $90 million in cash.
