In an e-mail to Health IT Strategist, HHS Chief Information Officer Michael Carleton confirmed reports that he will retire at the end of July.
HHS CIO Carleton to retire
Carleton was named to the post—which also carries the title of deputy assistant secretary for information technology—in June 2007.
According to his biography on HHS' website, Carleton oversees IT use, performance and risk management at HHS. He also leads IT enterprise architecture, capital planning and investment control.
Previously, he served as the deputy director of HHS' Office of Information Resources Management and as CIO of the General Services Administration. His age was unavailable at deadline.
