The CMS has awarded RelayHealth Pharmacy Solutions a contract to provide real-time transaction service connections between pharmacies and Medicare Part D plans.
CMS awards RelayHealth transaction-connections contract
The competitively bid contract runs through March 31, 2012, and has nine one-year options for renewal. RelayHealth was the incumbent provider of transaction-facilitator services for the CMS.
Transaction facilitator services help ensure that the CMS has accurate information on plans participating in Medicare's prescription-drug program so that it can calculate patients' payments, according to a news release from RelayHealth. They also help automate the transfer of patient balances from one Part D plan to another when beneficiaries change plans within a coverage year and provide pharmacies with immediate access to beneficiaries' insurance information for use in the filing of prescription-drug claims, according to the release.
