Mark Slyter, president of Baptist Medical Center and COO of Baptist Health Systems, will succeed Kurt Metzner as CEO. Slyter will assume the post Sept. 1, following Metzner's retirement, according to a news release from the two-hospital Jackson, Miss.-based system.

Prior to joining Baptist Health Systems, Slyter, 42, was administrator of Baptist Medical Center Beaches in Jacksonville, Fla. He also served as administrator of Hillcrest Memorial Hospital, Simpsonville, S.C. Slyter's age was unavailable at deadline.
“We believe that Mark has the vision, experience, and leadership ability to effectively navigate the shifting landscape of healthcare reform while continuing to guide Baptist in its role as the leading provider of healthcare services to our community,” said William Eubank, chairman of Baptist Health Systems' board of trustees, in the announcement.
Metzner will continue to serve the system in an emeritus role, according to the release.
