Walgreen Co., the Deerfield, Ill.-based pharmacy chain, has completed its acquisition of Drugstore.com, an online pharmacy and retailer based in Bellevue, Wash.

The $409 million deal, which was announced in March, includes Drugstore.com's websites, corporate office and customer service and distribution center operations. Walgreen President and CEO Greg Wasson said in a news release that the acquisition provides the company with access to 3 million Drugstore.com customers and adds 60,000 products to its online offering.
Sona Chawla, Walgreen’s president of e-commerce, will lead the company's combined e-commerce business; Drugstore.com CEO Dawn Lepore is acting as a strategic adviser during the transition period.
