This is an excellent beginning of the much-needed discussion on how to (re)develop a healthcare management system that recognizes the uniqueness of the military and in-theater operations and that delivers information to the patient, physician and specialist instantly anywhere there is a mobile or Internet connection.
Envisioning military health IT's future
Munnecke and Marshall have both hit the nail on the head in pleading for visionaries. The only vision that systems integrators (I was one for more than 20 years) along the Beltway have is for their sustained employment by winning a major development project. The problem after finding a visionary is finding someone who can defend that vision from user, architecture, cost-benefit and development challenges. The industry pays high salaries to get the best technical talent available so that they can "guide" government programs with their insight and vision.
