In its latest effort to combat healthcare-associated infections, HHS released a Web-based video simulation tool that allows users to act out various scenarios and learn infection-prevention strategies.
Late News: HHS releases video tool on prevention of HAI
The free, interactive program is called Partnering to Heal: Teaming Up Against Healthcare-Associated Infections. Users of the tool can assume the role of one of five characters: a nurse, a physician, an infection preventionist, a patient family member or a medical student. After choosing a character, the video guides them through specialized situations with opportunities to make decisions and see the outcomes. For instance, one video scenario explores the impact on a registered nurse whose job is threatened after she questions a physician’s adherence to hand-hygiene protocols. Another shows a medical student deciding whether to speak up about proper catheter insertion.
