Dr. Janelle Rhyne, an internist, took over as chairwoman of the Federation of State Medical Boards' board of directors during the organization's annual meeting, held April 28-30 in Seattle. Rhyne, 58, was president of the North Carolina Medical Board from November 2007 to October 2008.

Also at the meeting, Dr. Lance Talmage, an obstetrician and gynecologist, was named chairman-elect. Talmage, 73, is secretary of the State Medical Board of Ohio. Dr. Freda Bush, an obstetrician and gynecologist, is now the immediate past president. Bush, 64, was president of the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure from 2000 to 2002.
Also elected to the board were Hedy Chang, a public member of the Medical board of California; Dr. Arthur Hengerer, an otolaryngologist active with the New York State Board of Professional Medical Conduct; Dr. J. Daniel Gifford, a nephrologist with the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners; Tammy McGee, public member of the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice; and Richard Whitehouse, executive director of the State Medical Board of Ohio.
