School-based health centers have become the latest defunding target of U.S. House Republicans, whose legislation to eliminate funding to construct these facilities passed in the lower chamber Wednesday by a vote of 235 to 191. Sponsored by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), a physician, the bill would repeal a section in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to provide grant funding to construct school-based health centers and aims to rescind any unobligated appropriations for the program.
