William Hawkins, the outgoing chairman and CEO of Medtronic, said in a letter to employees that he will continue in his leadership role until the Minneapolis-based medical device company names a successor.
Medtronic chief postpones retirement
Hawkins had announced in December that he planned to retire and would step down April 29, the end of Medtronic's fiscal year. In the May 2 letter, Hawkins wrote that the search for a replacement, which is being conducted by Medtronic's board of directors, will extend into the company's fiscal 2012.
“To ensure a smooth leadership transition, I will continue to serve as chairman and CEO until my successor is named,” Hawkins said in the letter.
