Catholic Health Partners, Cincinnati, has chosen Health Management Associates for exclusive negotiations to acquire CHP's seven-hospital east Tennessee system, known as Mercy Health Partners-Tennessee, according to an HMA news release.

CHP just completed a deal to sell its three-hospital Scranton, Pa., system to Community Health Systems, Franklin, Tenn.
The next step in the process is a definitive agreement between CHP and Naples, Fla.-based HMA, according to the release. Neither financial terms nor an estimate on when a deal would be completed were disclosed.
MHP-Tennessee is headquartered in Knoxville and was formed by the merger of CHP-owned St. Mary's Health System and Baptist Health System of East Tennessee in 2008.
