By the administration's standards, he's the right person to lead the CMS. By Republican standards in the Senate, he's not measuring up. To the man who held that some position for three years, Dr. Donald Berwick is doing a good job as CMS administrator.
“My version of whether someone is doing a good job is: do the career staff—when there's no reporter asking them—like him?” says Tom Scully, former administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration that became CMS under his leadership from 2001-2003. “And my experience with the career staff—many of whom I still know there—respect him, like him, think he's an honorable guy doing a good job.”
