Dr. Harry Greenspun said he will be stretching out around home when he moves next month to a new position at the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, the health services research arm of Deloitte.
Greenspun announced the job change Monday. His current position is chief medical officer for Dell Corp., by way of that company's 2009 acquisition of Perot Systems Corp., where he served as vice president and CMO. Before that, he was CMO for Northrop Grumman Corp.
In 2010, Greenspun was ranked No. 18 on Modern Healthcare's 50 Most Powerful Physicians list. Last year, Greenspun and business writer Jim Champy wrote the book "Reengineering Health Care: A Manifesto for Radically Rethinking Health Care Delivery."
"Deloitte offered two things," Greenspun said in a telephone interview this morning. "(First,) it's an opportunity to really expand my impact in healthcare; it's a broader-based organization than in just healthcare IT. And the center is based in the (Washington) D.C. area." Greenspun grew up in nearby Bethesda, Md.
Greenspun said he hasn't been entirely a stranger to Deloitte, having served on the advisory board for its Center for Health Solutions from early 2007 into 2008.
