Community Health Systems, Franklin, Tenn., disclosed the existence of more whistle-blower cases against the company in a securities filing on Monday.
The existence of the still-sealed complaints was noted in a copy of a joint motion filed April 22 by the U.S. Justice Department and the whistle-blower who filed a case against CHS in U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne, Ind., according to the filing. That lawsuit was disclosed April 22 by CHS in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The motion indicates that the Justice Department, multiple U.S. Attorneys' offices and HHS' inspector general's office are coordinating their investigations of the company, and the Office of Audit Services for HHS' Office of Investigations has started a national audit of some of the hospital system's Medicare claims, according to the filing.
