Atrius Health, the not-for-profit alliance of five medical groups in eastern Massachusetts, is in affiliation talks with Fallon Clinic, a 250-member physician group practice in Worcester, Mass., according to a spokeswoman for Atrius Health.
Mass.'s Atrius Health, Fallon Clinic in talks
The two groups issued a written statement, released via e-mail, saying they "are in significant discussions" on how to improve patient care through an affiliation and expect to reach a decision shortly. According to the spokeswoman, the deal would not be a purchase. Fallon Clinic would become the sixth physician group under Atrius Health, but it would still operate independently. A decision will probably come within weeks, she said.
Atrius Health has 844 physicians and a total patient base of 717,000 as it oversees Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Southboro Medical Group and South Shore Medical Center. Fallon Clinic treats 250,000 patients, so the deal would increase Atrius''overall patient base to more than 1 million.
