Wholesale prices for acute-care hospital services increased 0.1% in March after a decline of 0.2% the prior month, according to preliminary Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. The hospital Producer Price Index for March 2010 increased 0.2%. For the 12-month period ended last month, the index of hospital prices increased 1.4% compared with 3.5% the prior year.
Hospital, doc-office PPI figures edge up
For physician offices, the preliminary wholesale prices show an increase of 0.2% in March after the prior month's spike of 0.9%. In 2010, the March physician Producer Price Index increased 0.2%. For 12-month period ended last month, the physician PPI increased 1.8% compared with 2.4% a year ago.
