The American College of Surgeons is partnering with Within3, a Cleveland-based builder of secure online healthcare community networking platforms, to create an online community aimed at facilitating online collaboration between surgeons in sparsely populated areas.
Surgeon group builds online collaboration for rural docs
A rural-surgeon advisory group helped design the site with the goal of promoting rural surgeon collaboration on cases and care and expanding doctors' "collective knowledge through shared resources, the latest news, information on advanced procedures and ongoing online educational opportunities," according to an ACS news release.
The online community will launch at the Rural Surgery Symposium and Workshop taking place May 5-8 at the ACS headquarters in Chicago and at the nearby Northwestern University Center for Simulation Technology and Immersive Learning.
"This is not a social media site that tries to be something for everybody," ACS Executive Director Dr. David Hoyt said in the release. "We've spent extensive time interviewing our rural surgeon members and feel this community will offer them a secure site where they can upload images, case studies and research so they can collaborate virtually, using the latest technology in a way that hasn't been available to them before."
