Ribbon-cuttings are so yesterday. Hospitals that want to generate the public's interest in grand openings are turning to higher-tech platforms.
Children's Hospital Los Angeles, for instance, has launched an online game featuring prominent local sports stars to promote a new pediatric hospital opening in July. You may remember it as the hospital that found its missing apostrophe after 110 years of leaving one out of its name, (March 7, p. 36).
The four-part game includes L.A. Lakers forward Pau Gasol, L.A. Dodgers first baseman James Loney, former L.A. Kings left wing Luc Robitaille and L.A. Galaxy and U.S. National Team soccer player Landon Donovan.
