Pediatrix Medical Group, a national medical group based in Sunrise, Fla., announced that it paid cash to acquire two practices in San Antonio and one in Miami. No other financial terms were disclosed.
Pediatrix buys three doc practices
The acquired San Antonio practices are the two-physician Center for Maternal Fetal Care and an after-hours clinic called Good Night Pediatrics. The Miami practice is Single Source Pediatric Heart Center.
Pediatrix also announced that it has started offering pediatric critical care services at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.
Pediatrix was founded in 1979, and after acquiring an anesthesiology practice in 2007, it formed Mednax in 2009 to serve as the parent company for itself and its American Anesthesiolgy unit.
In January, Pediatrix paid cash to buy Neonatal Medical Associates, a 14-physician practice in Long Beach, Calif. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Mednax acquired 15 practices in 2010. These included eight neonatal practices, two maternal-fetal medicine practices, two pediatric practices, two anesthesiology practices and one pediatric cardiology practice.
The filing also stated: "During 2011, we plan to invest approximately $100 million in acquisitions within our neonatal, maternal-fetal, pediatric cardiology and other pediatric subspecialties. Additionally, we plan to pursue acquisitions within the anesthesiology specialty, although the amount we plan to invest during 2011 has not been determined."
At the close of last year, according to the filing, Mednax had 1,675 affiliated physicians practicing in 33 states and Puerto Rico.
