Athenahealth, a provider of cloud-based services in the areas of practice management, patient communications and electronic health-record systems, has named Dr. Todd Rothenhaus to the newly created position of chief medical information officer.
Athenahealth names first CMIO
Rothenhaus most recently was senior vice president and chief information officer of Boston-based Steward Health Care, according to an Athenahealth news release. In that role, as part of health information technology overhaul, he helped position the company to qualify for meaningful-use payments under the federal government's health IT incentive programs.
He also has served as medical director at Boston Medical Center's emergency department in Newton, Mass., and as the informatics director within Boston University School of Medicine's emergency medicine department.
At Watertown, Mass.-based Athenahealth, Rothenhaus will be involved in product development; implementation and client support; compliance and risk assessment; and sales support and physician advocacy, according to the release. Rothenhaus' age was unavailable at deadline.
