William Foley, CEO of Cook County Health and Hospitals System, Chicago, announced his resignation from the public health system, according to a Cook County news release.

Foley, 60, reportedly will be accepting a job with Vanguard Health Systems, Nashville, according to local news reports. Vanguard could not be reached for comment. Vanguard is expanding in the Chicago area.
Foley, a former managing director for Huron Consulting Group, was the system's first CEO after it converted to an independent health system. He also has served as president and CEO of six-hospital Provena Health, Mokena, Ill.
The system's board of directors will convene a special meeting today to appoint an interim CEO, and a national search for a permanent replacement will begin immediately. Foley's last day will be May 6.
