Methodist Hospital System CEO to retire

Ron Girotto, president and CEO of the Methodist Hospital System, Houston, announced he would retire effective at the end of this year.

Girotto, 69, will be replaced Jan. 1 by Dr. Marc Boom, currently an executive vice president with Methodist and the senior operational executive for the system's flagship 965-bed Methodist Hospital, according to an e-mail from the system's board chairman, Ewing Werlein Jr. Boom, who has been with Methodist since 1997, also is responsible for the operating performance of a Methodist physician organization and research institute.

Girotto has been president and CEO for 10 years, and previously served as both chief financial officer and chief operating officer after having joined Methodist in 1979. Girotto advanced a $1.5 billion expansion that was completed last year. He plans to spend more time with his wife and family, according to Werlein.
