Consumer prices for hospital services climbed 0.5% in February after January's drop of 0.2%, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In February 2010, hospital consumer prices jumped 1.1%. For the 12-month period ended in February, the Consumer Price Index for hospital services increased 6.4% compared with an 8.1% rise the prior year.
Hospital CPI rises 0.5% in February
Inpatient hospital consumer prices increased 0.2% in February after holding flat the prior month. Consumer prices rose more significantly for outpatient hospital services, increasing 0.7% in February after a 0.1% decline in January.
Consumer prices for physician services increased 0.8% in February after climbing 0.1% the prior month, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. In February 2010, the CPI for physician services increased 0.2%. For the 12-month period ended last month, physician consumer prices increased 3% compared with 2.6% the previous year.
