USA Mobility, Alexandria, Va., a publicly traded provider of paging and other communications services for the healthcare industry, government and other businesses, has acquired Amcom Software, Eden Prairie, Minn., a developer of healthcare-related mobile-communications applications, according to a USA Mobility news release.
USA Mobility buys mobile-app provider Amcom
The Amcom acquisition will help USA Mobility diversify its technology platforms and mitigate "erosion" in its installed paging base, according to the release.
Amcom will operate as a subsidiary of USA Mobility. Amcom CEO Chris Heim will serve as president of Amcom Software, and Amcom Chief Financial Officer Dan Mayleben will become chief operating officer of the subsidiary.
Norwest Equity Partners, the Minneapolis venture-capital firm that sold Amcom, had been an investor in the company since 2009, according to a Norwest news release.
USA Mobility paid $163.3 million for Amcom using $110.8 million in cash on hand and $52.5 million borrowed through a credit facility, according to USA Mobility's news release.
