A radiology practice in central Illinois has formed a strategic alliance with a national teleradiology company.
Radiology, teleradiology groups align
Lakeland Radiologists of Charleston, Ill., announced it will merge with an affiliated medical practice of Virtual Radiologic. The new entity, to be called Lakeland Radiology Alliance, will share technology, clinical data and expertise.
Lakeland has 15 radiologists serving four regional hospitals and several clinics. Virtual Radiologic, also known as vRad, of Eden Prairie, Minn., is a teleradiology company with more than 325 radiologists serving 2,700 facilities nationwide.
"As we looked at growth of our practice and the changing landscape of the healthcare industry, we had to find more efficient ways to meet the increasing demands for our services," said Dr. Aldo Ruffolo, Lakeland's medical director, in a news release. "We had been providing traditional onsite radiology for years, which was becoming increasingly challenging in our broad geography without a fully integrated teleradiology solution."
