Indy Southside Surgical, a five-surgeon practice with offices in Indianapolis and Mooresville, Ind., has joined the Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Alliance's St. Francis Medical Group. No terms of the deal were disclosed.
Indiana's St. Francis adds surgical practice
The practice, which was started by a pair of brothers—Drs. David and Jonathan Mandelbaum—and which moved its office to the St. Francis-Indianapolis campus in 1995, will now be known as St. Francis Medical Group Indy Southside Surgical.
"They've had a longtime affiliation with St. Francis Health Services," said spokesman Joe Stuteville, referring to the system's old name, Sisters of St. Francis Health Services. "They will continue to operate the way they have. It's just business as usual."
More practice acquisitions may be forthcoming as Stuteville said St. Francis is "continuously looking to expand our reach in central Indiana."
Stuteville, however, would not say if the latest acquisition was linked to the nine-hospital system's response to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or its effort to form an accountable care organization.
"I can't say this decision is based solely on that," he said. "Certainly, the Franciscan Alliance has been looking very closely at forming an ACO in response to national healthcare reform."
