ADP, a human resources outsourcing firm based in Roseland, N.J., has purchased medical-billing software maker AdvancedMD, Salt Lake City, for undisclosed terms, ADP said in a news release.

ADP's announcement says the firm hopes to target small and midsize physician practices, which also are the market of choice for AdvancedMD's practice management and electronic health-record system services.
ADP already provides outsourced HR, payroll and benefit administration services to physicians in 13,500 small and midsize practices, while AdvancedMD has 4,100 physician clients and 300 regional billing clients, according to the release. A spokeswoman with ADP declined to comment on terms of the transaction.
