The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it was accepting applications for telecommunications grants of up to $500,000 each to provide access to healthcare resources in rural areas.
Ag agency announces telemedicine grants
The grants, which also target general education and training, are authorized through the Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program. Grants can be used for the purchase of equipment and to provide technical assistance. The deadline to apply is April 25, and further information is available at the USDA's website .
The department awarded 45 such grants in January, including $497,000 to Integris Health, Oklahoma City, for, among other things, video teleconferencing equipment to assist with stroke patients.
