UMass Memorial Health Care has named Dr. Michael Bakerman to a newly created position as chief medical informatics officer, overseeing data integration for the five-hospital system and its network of affiliated and independent physicians.
UMass taps Bakerman for CMIO post
Bakerman, 57, a cardiologist, formerly served as associate medical director for Partners Healthcare, Boston, and as a medical adviser to the then-Perot Systems, which is now a subsidiary of Dell Computer. Bakerman was in private practice until 1999, when he became a full-time consultant, according to a UMass news release.
In his new role at UMass, he will oversee the implementation of a long-term project to integrate patient clinical and financial systems while reducing variability in processes and workflows, along with deploying a systemwide data integration strategy for physicians.
