Arizona State University, Tempe, will move its biomedical informatics department to the Scottsdale campus of the Mayo Clinic as part of an agreement "to broaden and deepen (the institutions') collaboration in healthcare, medical research and education," according to an ASU news release.
ASU strikes deal with Mayo Clinic campus
ASU chief research officer Sethuraman "Panch" Panchanathan said in the release that being located on the Mayo campus will provide many benefits for all parties.
"To advance biomedical informatics education and research, we need to be embedded in a clinical environment," Panchanathan said. “Mayo provides access to world-class physicians and researchers. It will provide extraordinary opportunities for ASU faculty and students to work in one of the top clinical facilities in the country and advance education, research and training in biomedical informatics.”
Currently, the department is housed in Phoenix as a part of a partnership between ASU and the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine. The move is expected to be completed by late summer, according to the release.
