Regarding “HHS offers states advice on Medicaid savings”:
It is interesting that the states are in a “state of crisis,” acting as if a snowstorm hit them in the head and they were clueless to their situation. Having been in healthcare in hospital pharmacies for more than 20 years, I have a unique perspective. Also having a real estate license for more than 20 years and watching financial trends, this also gives me a unique perspective.
In Florida specifically, we have had massive layoffs from call-center jobs, along with construction and manufacturing jobs, because of the real estate decline and mortgage meltdown. As a Realtor, I was able to see financial trends as a self-employed contractor. What have the state of Florida economists been doing? Massive layoffs, did you ask where these people were going to go and how they would afford healthcare?
Maybe, as in Florida, our focus shouldn't be on throwing money at a “big company” that wants freebies from the state and county governments in the form of tax-free deals.
