CareFusion Corp., San Diego, has named longtime medical-technology executive Kieran Gallahue chairman and CEO. Gallahue, 47, succeeds David Schlotterbeck, who previously announced plans to retire this month, according to a CareFusion news release.
CareFusion names new CEO
Gallahue most recently was president and CEO of ResMed, San Diego, a provider of products meant to diagnose and treat sleep-disordered breathing. He joined the company in 2003 as president and chief operating officer of ResMed - Americas and was named to the CEO post in January 2008.
Before his tenure at ResMed, Gallahue held positions with DNA-research and medical diagnostics firm Nanogen, also in San Diego, and global diagnostics product developer Instrumentation Laboratory.
CareFusion, spun off from Cardinal Health in 2009, announced layoffs in August of more than 700 employees as part of a major restructuring. The company offers instrument-management and medication-management software and infection-surveillance tools, among other products.
