Five physicians are among a group of 13 new appointees to the Presidential Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health. Establishment of the advisory group, which is part of HHS, was required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Obama appoints five docs to health advisory group
The group's members are appointed by the president and will provide feedback and policy recommendations on prevention and management of chronic diseases, integrative health and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
The new physician members are Dr. JudyAnn Bigby, Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services; Dr. Jonathan Fielding, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and a professor of health services and pediatrics at University of California, Los Angeles; Dr. Vivek Murthy, attending physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, and an instructor at Harvard Medical School, also in Boston; Dr. Linda Rosenstock, dean of UCLA's School of Public Health and a professor in the university's departments of medicine and environmental sciences; and Dr. Sharon Van Horn, a Chapel Hill, N.C.-based pediatrician.
