Avera Health, Sioux Falls, S.D., was awarded $1.1 million in telemedicine grants through the U.S. Agriculture Department's Office of Rural Development.
S.D.-based health system gets $1 million in telemed grants
The system, which owns or leases 15 hospitals and manages 12 in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska, will use the funding to increase access to telemedicine in rural parts of Iowa and the Dakotas, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). Avera's telehealth services include specialty consultations, intensive-care unit and emergency care, and pharmacy services. The grant money also will pay for training of medical staff.
Avera was awarded three grants among dozens recently awarded to healthcare organizations for telemedicine projects (PDF) across the country.
