I can confirm that names are remarkably subtle.
Even in a sample of names from 10,000 lab tests, computer-thwarting variation is intrinsic. I think many of these problems can be overcome with sophisticated software. Implicit in the article is that this software should not be reinvented over and over again, as is the case today. The well-understood cases should be handled in some standard way.
