The year is off to a fast start here at Modern Healthcare. In case you took a little extra time off after the holidays, let me get you caught up.
Catching up on the latest
New daily newsletter, new reporter and more at Modern Healthcare
We added a third daily e-newsletter to our publishing roster. We increased the frequency of Modern Physician to daily from twice monthly. As you well know, the news affecting physician-owned and -led organizations and businesses is breaking daily, if not hourly, and it's certainly coming much faster than a twice-monthly electronic newsletter can catch. Modern Physician will come out each business day that our newsroom is open. News that breaks on weekends and over the holidays will be posted on ModernPhysician.com. To subscribe to Modern Physician, please visit ModernPhysician.com.
We hired a new reporter in Washington. His name is Rich Daly and he's not from Chicago. Daly, 37, is a District of Columbia native. He joined Modern Healthcare on Jan. 10 and joined Washington Bureau Chief Jessica Zigmond in covering Medicare, Medicaid and legislative and regulatory developments out of the nation's capital. Daly also will be covering general healthcare business news in Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. Daly is a former reporter for Psychiatric News, where he covered federal, state and regional healthcare policy affecting mental health providers. He's also a former reporter for Congressional Quarterly and a small newspaper chain in northern Virginia. Daly has a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Dallas. He replaces Jennifer Lubell, who left the staff in October to accept a position as a healthcare newsletter editor at Atlantic Information Services. Please welcome Daly to the staff. You can reach him at [email protected] or 202-662-7207.
We're seeking nominations for our ninth annual CEO IT Achievement Awards competition. The 2011 award, co-sponsored by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, honors one or more healthcare industry CEOs who demonstrate leadership and commitment to using information technology to advance their organizations' goals. CEOs from provider organizations, including hospitals, health systems, health insurers, physician groups, clinics and post-acute-care providers are eligible for the award. CEOs from healthcare vendors and suppliers are not eligible.
Entries can be submitted starting Jan. 17 on ModernHealthcare.com. The submission deadline is March 18. A panel of CEOs and chief information officers will judge the competition. The magazine will announce the winner or winners in the April 18 issue of Modern Healthcare, and award recipients will be profiled in a special section in the June 13 issue.
A total of 20 CEOs have received the award since the recognition program began in 2003. The 2010 competition drew 82 entries, with two CEOs being chosen as award winners.
Speaking of IT, you have only two days left to participate in our 21st annual Modern Healthcare/Modern Physician Survey of Executive Opinions on Key Information Technology Issues. The survey deadline is Jan. 19. To participate, please visit the survey section of our website at modernhealthcare.com/section/surveys. Selected results will be published in the Feb. 21 issue of Modern Healthcare and subsequent issues of Modern Physician.
