Regarding “CMS proposes value-based purchasing program”:
I agree with the value-based purchasing model and have been awaiting its roll-out. In 2004, we began trying to negotiate a reimbursement model with our local Blue Cross and Blue Shield provider, at the large hospital system I worked in, around quality and patient safety. We had a balanced-scorecard model in place that measured patient and employee satisfaction. I also met with the PPO for our non-owned physician practices to make sure there was continuum-of-care consideration and no physicians were left out.
