New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he will appoint a team of up to 25 healthcare and business experts, state employees, consumer advocates and political leaders to review the state's Medicaid budget and operations.
Cuomo creates Medicaid redesign team
Cuomo used an executive order to create what he called a Medicaid redesign team, which must submit its first recommendations March 1 for the state’s 2011-12 fiscal year budget. Cuomo named Jason Helgerson, the state’s Medicaid director, to head the redesign team. The executive order calls for the team to review Medicaid spending and use; analyze the program’s regulations and identify possible resources, including those available under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The team will also consider successful efforts to improve Medicaid quality and efficiency and possible restructuring of New York’s Medicaid program.
