SXC Health Solutions Corp., Lisle, Ill., has completed a deal to buy specialty pharmacy provider MedfusionRx, Birmingham, Ala., for $100 million in cash plus $5.5 million subject to reaching performance targets through Dec. 31, 2012, according to a news release from the buyer.
SXC is a provider of health information technology and pharmacy benefit management services. According to SXC's Dec. 2 announcement of the planned deal, MedfusionRx will keep its operations in Alabama.
"This acquisition will help transform our specialty pharmacy business by expanding our presence and enhancing our capabilities in this rapidly growing segment of the PBM industry," SXC President and CEO Mark Thierer said in Wednesday's news release. "We are excited with the growth prospects of this acquisition and look forward to capitalizing on our revenue and cost-saving synergy opportunities."
