Peter Makowski resigned from his post as president and CEO of St. Anthony Central Hospital, a Centura Health institution in Denver. Raymond Mencini has been named interim president and CEO while a national search for a replacement takes place. Makowski, whose age was not available at deadline, was appointed president and CEO in summer 2007. According to a news release, Makowski's resignation comes as a result of an organization structure change for Centura's Mountains North Denver Operating Group, which also includes Avista Adventist Hospital, Louisville, Colo.; St. Anthony North Hospital, Westminster, Colo.; and St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, Frisco, Colo. The new president and CEO of St. Anthony Central also will serve as operating group president. “Peter is a compassionate and seasoned leader, and I want to thank him for leading St. Anthony Central to a number of significant accomplishments over the years,” Gary Campbell, president and CEO of Centura Health, said in the news release. Mencini, 57, is a radiologist and has been the president of the St. Anthony Central medical staff since 2008. He also is on the hospital's board of trustees. … Wuesthoff Health System, Rockledge, Fla., acquired Oct. 1 by Health Management Associates, named Richard Haun to succeed George Fayer as CFO. Fayer stepped down as CFO of the two-hospital system and its two hospitals on Oct. 1, said Wuesthoff spokeswoman Lisa Crites. Haun also will oversee finances of Wuesthoff Medical Center Rockledge. Haun previously served as CFO for Ardent Health Services' Lovelace Women's Hospital, Albuquerque, N.M., and as CFO at Community Health Systems hospitals in Pennsylvania and Illinois. Wuesthoff named Steve Bender as CFO of Wuesthoff Medical Center (Fla.) Melbourne. Bender joined Wuesthoff from Peace River Regional Medical Center, Port Charlotte, Fla., where he was controller. Ages for Haun and Bender were not released. … Presbyterian Healthcare, Charlotte, N.C., announced promotions for two senior executives. Mark Billings is now the president of Presbyterian Healthcare, which is part of tax-exempt Novant Health, Winston-Salem, N.C. Billings was previously COO of the greater Charlotte area for Novant Health. He now also oversees operations in Huntersville, N.C. Billings joined Novant Health in 2004 after a 20-year career as a Medical Services Corps officer in the U.S. Navy. Paula Vincent was promoted to senior VP of operations for the greater Charlotte area. Vincent also retains her title as CNO for Presbyterian. Vincent has worked her entire career—more than 30 years—with Presbyterian. In 2003, she was named VP of community-care services. Their ages could not be obtained by press time. … WellStar Health System, Marietta, Ga., named Leo Reichert executive VP and general counsel. Reichert, 49, will replace Bonnie Wilson. WellStar's trustees made the decision not to renew Wilson's contract during a Sept. 2 board meeting, where they also voted to terminate Gregory Simone, WellStar's former president and CEO (Sept. 6, p. 4). Reichert currently works as a partner at Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs, Atlanta, WellStar said in a news release. He also is a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. Reichert's exact start date has not yet been determined, a spokesman said, but he is expected to assume his new post in January 2011.
