Elliot Sussman, 59, resigned as president and CEO of Lehigh Valley Health Network, Allentown Pa., a role he has held since 1993. Ronald Swinfard, Lehigh Valley’s current CMO, has been named Sussman’s successor, according to the release. Swinfard has served as CMO since 2003. A new CMO will be chosen at a later date, according to the release. “Thanks to Dr. Sussman’s vision and focus on quality care and patient safety, Lehigh Valley Health Network is uniquely positioned to continue to meet the healthcare needs of our community and beyond,” J.B. Reilly, chair of Lehigh Valley’s board, said in a news release. “We wish him continued success.” Lehigh Valley did not provide any specific information regarding Sussman’s plans for the future, saying only that he left his post “to explore numerous national opportunities that will require significant time away from his LVHN responsibilities.” … Michael Hunn was promoted to senior VP and CEO of Providence Health & Services’ California region. Hunn, 55, currently is CEO of Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. In his new position, he will oversee the five Providence medical centers in the greater Los Angeles area, and outpatient centers, long-term-care facilities, physician organizations and a high school. Hunn replaces Arnold Schaffer, who was promoted this year to senior VP of regional operations for the Providence system. … David Kapaska was named regional president and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. He succeeds Fred Slunecka, who held the post of regional president since 1989 and has been promoted to COO for the entire Avera system. Kapaska, 61, previously worked as its senior VP of medical affairs. … David Pynn was promoted to succeed Sister M. Therese Gottschalk as CEO of St. John Health System, effective Jan. 1. Gottschalk, 79, will remain as a St. John Health System director and head of mission integration and CEO of Marian Health System, Tulsa, Okla., which owns St. John Health, also based in Tulsa, according to a news release. Pynn, 55, is executive VP and COO of St. John Health. Pynn joined St. John Health from the health plan CommunityCare, where he was president and CEO. … Franciscan Services Corp. named Robert Tracz to succeed William Waters as CFO and VP of financial services, effective Dec. 20. Waters, 65, will remain with Franciscan Services to help with the transition through the end of January, when he will retire, a spokeswoman said. Waters has been finance chief for the Sylvania, Ohio-based system for 25 years. Tracz will join Franciscan Services from Lake Health, Concord, Ohio, where he has been CFO and senior VP of finance. … Leigh Massengill was named the new CEO of HCA’s Community Hospital in New Port Richey, Fla. Massengill’s appointment was effective Nov. 1, a hospital spokeswoman said. The hospital declined to provide her age. Massengill previously was COO of Regional Medical Center-Bayonet Point, an HCA hospital in Hudson, Fla. She takes over for Kathryn Gillette, who was promoted as CEO of HCA’s Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee.
