This is the third year Modern Healthcare has conducted the Healthcare Purchasing Power survey, a look at large employers seeking information on their healthcare expenditures.
How we did it
The survey opened July 5 and closed on Sept. 17. Copies of the survey were mailed to Fortune 1000 companies as well as others that have participated in other Modern Healthcare surveys. Modern Healthcare also promoted the survey through its website, in e-mail newsletters and in the print magazine.
To qualify, employers were required to have a minimum of $1 billion in U.S. annual revenue. Government organizations were not eligible. The survey once again was co-sponsored by the Leapfrog Group and the National Business Coalition on Health.
Thirty-five companies responded this year, down from 38 last year and 45 in 2008.
