David Kapaska has been named regional president and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. He succeeds Fred Slunecka, who held the post of regional president since 1989 and has been promoted to COO for the entire 14-hospital Avera system.
Kapaska, 61, becomes the 16th administrator in the hospital's 100-year history, and previously worked as its senior vice president of medical affairs. He is a graduate of the U.S Air Force Academy and served as a pilot before entering the medical and business arenas, according to a news release. Before becoming a hospital administrator, Kapaska had a family medicine practice for 10 years.
