Palmetto Health, Columbia, S.C., has named one of its hospital executives, John Singerling III, the new president of the system. Singerling, 38, will be responsible for hospital operations and marketing and human resources roles for the system, according to a news release. Singerling will report to Palmetto CEO Charles Beaman, who relinquished the title as president. Since 2006, Singerling has been executive vice president and COO of Palmetto Health Richland. That year, he also was named an Up and Comer by Modern Healthcare, which annually recognizes ascendant healthcare executives under 40. … Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago has named Jose Sanchez its new president and CEO. Sanchez, 57, will lead a critical assessment of the urban hospital's systems with an eye toward refining the quality of those systems, according to a news release. Sanchez, a licensed social worker, previously served as senior VP of Generations Plus Northern Manhattan Health Network, a multihospital system owned by the publicly operated New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. Sanchez succeeds Michael O'Grady, who is no longer with the hospital. … Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center named Ketul Patel as executive VP and chief strategy and operations officer, effective immediately. He succeeds Robert Garrett, 53, who was appointed president and CEO of the hospital in November 2009, although Patel also holds the title of chief strategy officer, a spokeswoman said in an e-mail. Patel, 39, has worked in senior management at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center; the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Mishawaka, Ind.; Sharp HealthCare, San Diego; and Conemaugh Health System, Johnstown, Pa., according to a news release. … Cardiologist Jerome Granato has been named the new chief medical officer at Excela Health, a three-hospital, Greensburg, Pa.-based system. Granato, 57, starts Jan. 3, 2011; and he will replace Carol Fox. Fox has been serving as interim CMO since the departure of Ralph Capone in May 2009 and will continue as assistant CMO. Granato has worked at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for 23 years, most recently as director of the cardiac fellowship training program. … Murray-Calloway County Hospital, Murray, Ky., named Brad Bloemer interim CEO, replacing Keith Bailey, who announced in June he was retiring, according to a statement from the hospital. Bloemer, 45, currently VP of finance and CFO for Murray-Calloway, was scheduled to start as interim CEO on Oct. 22. Bailey, 62, will teach part time at Hodges University in Naples, Fla., according to an e-mail from Murray-Calloway. … Daniel Barchi has been appointed CIO of Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Health System and Yale School of Medicine. Barchi, 42, previously served as the senior VP and CIO at Carilion Clinic, Roanoke, Va. He also held the president and CEO posts at Carilion's Biomedical Institute.
