CFO Joseph Zubretsky, 54, will add the title of senior executive vice president and be given the additional duties of leading strategic diversification at the Hartford, Conn.-based health plan. Zubretsky was hired at Aetna in 2007 and will continue in his CFO duties, including financial and performance investment and capital strategy and planning, an Aetna news release said.
Meanwhile, Margaret McCarthy, 56, will get a promotion to executive vice president after adding duties to her CIO role, including clinical innovation, and process and performance improvement. McCarthy joined Aetna in 2003.
Both changes take effect Nov. 29, the same day that Aetna President Mark Bertolini becomes CEO. The changes are part of a succession plan triggered by Williams' announcement of intentions to retire in April 2011. Williams plans to remain with the health plan as executive chairman after the change-over, while Aetna officials have said the board intends to elect Bertolini as chairman of the board upon Williams' retirement.
